Dr Elna McIntosh (PhD in Human Sexuality, D.Ed, Masters in Public Health) has
been a Sex Educator & Therapist for over 20 years. Her entire career has
been aimed toward a single set of goals: telling the truth about sexuality,
helping people feel sexually normal and powerful, and supporting the healthy
sexual expression and exploration of women and men. Elna pursues her goal of
a sexually enlightened world through therapy, lectures, writing, and TV and
radio work. She has published 160 articles in magazines such as Marie Claire,
Your Baby, Fair Lady, True Love and Rolling Inspirations. She also has regular
contributions to medical journals and a quarterly sexology magazine.
Elna has a very popular radio show, Sexually Speaking on Radio 702. This is a
weekly feature and a day time show. Elna is that rare professional: truly expert
in her subject, comfortable on live TV, and extremely funny. Her wit and
expertise also make her a frequently-quoted expert.
A tireless speaker, Elna has given scores of keynote speeches, training
programs, and popular lectures to groups including the Department of Family
Medicine at Wits Medical School, the Advanced Psychology Department at UNISA,
RAU Nursing Department, The School of Public Health at Pretoria University.
Known and respected by her colleagues, Elna has been elected a national board
member of the South African Sexual Health Association. She is a member of the
American College of Sexologists and some of her papers are archived in the
Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality,San Francisco, California. She
is listed in the International Who's Who of Sexology. She is also a member of
the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health and a lecturer
for the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care.
As a therapist, Elna works each week with couples and individuals who have a
variety of sexual and non-sexual difficulties. She lives in Sandton, with her
enormous collection of books and rock 'n' roll albums. She has run 7 Comrades,
climbed Kilimanjaro twice, done the Iron man triathlon and completed the Dusi
canoe marathon and many road races and cycling events. She is the Safety officer
for Gauteng canoe union and she loves the rivers and the outdoors.
