| Olivia Rose-Innes is a journalist and environmentalist specialising in environmental health issues. She has a Masters degree in Environmental Science from the University of Cape Town.
"Despite the global environmental crisis, the media still doesn't give environmental stories the status they deserve, and the public still doesn't take them seriously enough. The trouble is we only really start to pay attention to issues when we can see how they're going to impact directly on our own lives. Many crucial environmental problems just don't come across as urgent and obvious, because they're complex and take place relatively gradually - certainly at a slower pace than most news stories," says Olivia.
"But one area where we really can appreciate how our ailing environment affects us on a personal level, is health. I'm trying to show that environmental issues are intimately linked to human health issues, and of vital relevance to all of us."
