Savvy Kids' Menus by Sarah & Rupert McKerron, with Linda McCourt
Commercially produced foods may pose a number of health risks, especially to children. Research has confirmed that certain colourants and preservatives cause hyperactivity in children – even in those who don't have attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In an era in which it's hard to come by decent family food, the authors of Savvy Kids Menus have found a way to shift our thought processes back to a time when wholesome, home-cooked meals were our only option.

The husband-and-wife McKerron team show that it's not that difficult to get there. Their book consists of simple, fun recipes interspersed with well-researched sections on child nutrition, and other interesting subjects.
Many of the recipes make use of five or less ingredients (we love the Peanut Butter Porridge, the Kingklip and Pineapple Kebabs, and the Yoghurt Bread). The book has a personal touch, and the beautiful pictures and bright drawings from and by the authors' children make it a colourful addition to any bookshelf.
