Vitamin D and calcium intake is crucial during pregnancy. But pregnant women can't necessarily rely on their normal dairy sources to obtain these nutrients. Unpasteurised milk and foods made from it (especially soft cheeses such as brie, feta and camembert) may be contaminated with harmful bacteria.

Fortified soy milk and breakfast cereals are usually good, safe sources of these key nutrients – just check the nutritional information labels on soy milk and cereal packages to be sure. And pasteurised milk is generally also safe.
A multivitamin and mineral supplement can be used if needed. Opt for one that contains no more than 100 percent of the RDA for pregnancy. Your doctor or pharmacist should be able to help you.
