The Eucalyptus tree is not an indigenous tree. It is an evergreen and is found mainly in Gauteng, but is scattered throughout South Africa. It is one of the tallest trees in the world.

Its pollen is not very prolific, as is the case with most trees that are not indigenous. It has a tendency to flower all year in tropical areas, except in the Cape where its flowering season is mostly restricted to the months of August, September, October and November.

It is often planted near marshy areas, as its fast growth demands much water and it can drain marshy ground. Eucalyptus trees can be a fire risk due to gum and peeling bark.
