Stinkwood trees are found mostly in the Western Province. They are of the most majestic indigenous trees and grow to enormous heights, as do the yellow wood trees.

The wood of stinkwood trees are hard and they were often used in the past to make furniture. They form part of the forests around George and Knysna.
