Yellow wood

The huge yellow wood tree must be one of the most stately and decorative of our indigenous trees. Unfortunately, in the past, it was used extensively in the timber trade, decimating its numbers.

It is mostly found in the Cape and southern Cape. Species of the yellow wood tree are also found in moist inland forests in the Transkei and Kwa-Zulu Natal areas. Its flowering season is from October to December. It has dense and glossy foliage and is a tall (up to 30 m) straight-stemmed evergreen forest tree.
