Oak trees are not indigenous to South Africa and were brought here in the seventeenth century from Europe, but grew faster here than in Europe, making their wood softer and useless for the purposes for which it was imported.
Oak trees are found mostly in the Western Cape.
They flower in late spring or early summer, but this varies in South Africa, as the trees are not indigenous. Oak pollen can be fairly problematic to allergy sufferers.
