I was first diagnosed with a hearing loss at the age of 28. After visiting an ENT for further testing, I was told that my hearing loss was due to ototoxic medication that I had been taking several years prior to that. My ENT referred me back to my audiologist for a hearing aid. At that time she recommended two analogue hearing aids that I suppose were appropriate for me at that time. I never really benefited from these hearing aids and I think they sat in my office drawer more often than they were in my ears. They seemed to amplify everything around me and I could never use them on the phone.

Working in a law firm puts tremendous demands on my hearing ability. I spend a lot of time during the day on the phone and I am expected to follow the details of meetings very closely.
My hearing loss also started putting immense strain on my interpersonal relationship both with my colleagues and also with my family at home. I used to find that with my old hearing aids I was so exhausted by the end of the day and I used to get such headaches that by the time I got home I had very little time for my family. I was frustrated and used to shout at my children for no apparent reason. All of these reasons combined made me stop using my hearing aids all together which just exacerbated things because then I became more frustrated about missing out on conversations and making more and more mistakes at work which made me feel as if I was letting everyone down.
About 2 months ago I decided that I had to do something about my hearing difficulties. I went back to my audiologist and she recommended 2 Bravo hearing aids as they were a lot more affordable than some of the other technology but yet they were still very good hearing aids.
Using my Bravo hearing aid whilst speaking on the phone allows me to participate completely in the conversation without having to struggle with interference and feedback.
Looking back now, I honestly don;t know how I survived without my Bravo hearing aids for so long. Everything in my life has taken a turn for the better. I now have a lot more confidence in my work ability. I no longer struggle when using the Dictaphone and especially when using the phone. Even my relationships have improved at home and in the office. By the time I get home in the evenings, I am not as tired as I used to be and I am a lot more patient with my children.
There are no allowances for missing details in my business. I must have a hearing aid that I can depend on all the time. My Bravo hearing aids has never let me down. It is completely automatic and reliable. I put it in when I wake up in the morning and I forget about until that point that I am getting ready for bed at night.
