Toys can be very expensive and parents who want the best for their toddlers often end up spending a lot on items that end up gathering dust in a forgotten corner. What can you do to ensure that your toddler is as enthusiastic about his or her new toys as you are?

Take action:
Buy things that are solid and simple – toys that break easily will only frustrate your child; balls are always good toys to choose – not only do they improve toddlers' hand-eye co-ordination, they also give rise to varied activities; toy telephones are always a hit – they encourage role play and fantasy activities; books with stiff pages always go down well – the pictures can be stimulating and help toddlers to recognise and identify things; and remember that most toddlers tend to prefer plain paper and crayons to colouring-in books.
