Rusty equipment can cause nasty injuries, especially to children playing in the garden. But there are things you can do to stop your garden and yard from becoming a health risk.
Take action:
Keep utensils clean by scrubbing them with soap and water; hand dry them or let them air dry and store them in a cool, dry place; do not leave tools exposed to rain; use specifically designed solvents, which are available at most hardware stores, to get rid of rust; as an alternative, apply Coca-Cola or vinegar with aluminium foil or use fine sandpaper to clean bare metal parts and always apply a light coat of cooking oil to the equipment after scrubbing.
