Handy holiday tips
It is school holidays. Here are five tips to keep your kids busy through this busy season. They range from gift ideas, to safety tips to survival tips. Happy Holidays!

1 Holiday Presents for Grandparents & Relatives
Time to think of creative presents for grandparents and relatives or friends. Here are some ideas: mugs with your children's pictures or a family calendar - with a family photo on each page. Your local camera shop or copy center often can make these for you. Or if you feel brave enough, let the kids paint their own pictures. It might leave paint all over the table, but they will have fun. Ask your local craft shop for advice.

2 Your Home Heating System
Does your pool need cleaning? Should you order fertiliser for your garden? Clean your cupboards in case someone is staying in your house. Have your car fixed. Book your dogs in at the kennels. If you’re going away, ask a friend to collect your post and your news paper. Get these done in time before you get too busy with the holidays!

3 Baby-sitting Co-op
Organize a baby-sitting club with friends so that each of you gets some shopping days without the children and without paying a baby-sitter.

4 Give to the Needy
Show your child the real spirit of the holidays. Do something for someone less fortunate. Donate food to a food shelter, give a toy to a toy drive, give money to a homeless shelter, donate clothes to the needy.

5 Create a Coupon Book of Gifts
Do you or your child need a thoughtful, giving and yet, inexpensive present idea? Create a book of 'coupons' - that give the gift of time to a relative or friend or a spouse. Be creative! Here are some ideas - coupons could be for such activities as a free car wash, an evening of baby sitting, a hug, sweeping the floor, cleaning a room, mowing the lawn, cleaning the pool, doing the dishes. The ideas are fun and endless.
