You'd think that with millions of babies being born each day, the average is sperm is pretty healthy swimmer. Not so. Many men have problems with their. Here are a few health hazards you should know about...

  • Marijuana. Long-term use of marijuana in men has been linked to low sperm count and unhealthy sperm quality.
  • Smoking. Tobacco use significantly decreases sperm count and the liveliness of sperm cells.
  • Excess alcohol. Chronic boozing damages the intricate plumbing of the male reproductive system, reducing your ability to produce normally formed sperm.
  • Intense exercise. Men who exercise vigorously may reduce their sperm count due to the heat that builds up around the testicles. Avoid wearing tight underwear. Hot tubs, baths, saunas, or hot work environments should also be avoided.
  • Steroids. Many bodybuilders are infertile.
  • Environmental hazards. These include pesticides, insecticides, lead, heavy metals, and toxic chemicals
  • Antibiotics. Certain groups of antibiotics have been shown to affect sperm quality by decreasing count and motility. Speak to your doctor about it before taking anything.
  • Low Vitamin C levels. This may cause sperm to clump together, rendering more than 15 percent of all men infertile. Eat enough fresh and wholesome foods to keep your sperm count in check.
  • Prolonged abstinence. This will result in a higher volume of older sperm, which have decreased motility.
  • Too much sex. Cutting down appears to increase the volume and potency of semen.
