Karen Protheroe - BSc Med. (Hons) UCT 1994 - is a registered dietician.
Karen's CV:
First graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree and then graduated with an Honours degree in Nutrition and Dietetics in 1994.
Registered as a dietician with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, am a full member of Assoc. for Dietetics in SA.
Worked in UK as locum dietician in various hospitals for 6 months in 1995.
Have been in private practice in the Western Cape since 1995, based mainly in Virgin Active Gyms. Set up, trained and managed dieticians to work in 6 different private practices in Western Cape.
Co-author of the book "The Lean Aubergine", which was published by Struik at the end of 1999 and is an SA guide to low-fat shopping, cooking and eating out. New edition released October 2006.
Author of the book “Skinny Snacks”, also published by Struik in 2002 and shows individuals how to achieve their ideal weight and health by eating smaller meals or snacks throughout the day.
Co-author of the second edition of “The Lean Aubergine”, published in 2005. Field of interest is weight management (loss or gain) and its associated disordered eating as well as sports nutrition. Also lifestyle related diseases such as high cholesterol, cancer, irritable bowel, etc. I furthered my studies by doing a 6-month nutrition therapy course for those with eating disorders or disordered eating. Editor of a bi-monthly nutritional update newsletter which is emailed to nearly 3000 clients and other interested parties. Consultant dietician for Runners World and for Parmalat Functional Milks Range. Regular contributor to South African magazines - Mens health, Shape, Marie Claire, You, Cosmo, etc.
