Reuben supports the local schools, Groendal Primary and Kabouterland Pre-primary, in his home town, Franschhoek.
Groendal Primary School, situated in the Franschhoek area, was founded in 1983 and is driven by its vision to provide high-quality, relevant education to all its learners. The school has recently experienced an enormous growth in learner numbers and as a resultwas forced to employ and pay for more teachers from its own funding.
The school is excited about being one of Reuben’s charities. . Mr Norman Afrika, the principal of Reuben’s old school, Groendal Primary, said that they are delighted with Reuben’s success as an acclaimed chef. “He is a role model and inspiration for students in the school,” he said. In the past Reuben has addressed the schoolchildren and motivated them to broaden their horizons as regards future goals
The school’s number one priority is to ensure a safe environment for high quality education. The focus is on the improvement of students’ literacy and numeracy skills, and to involve parents in their children’s education.
Johanna Bartlett, principal of Kabouterland Pre-primary School, is over the moon about the news that Reuben has chosen them as one of his charities. The school’s playground needs to be fixed, the building needs to be repainted, and an office needs to be built. Bartlett commented on how proud the whole community is of Reuben: “He grew up in front of me. He is a child of our community who made it to the top. He is never shy to give back to his community.” .
Both schools have a committed staff motivated by dynamic leaders. With a bit of help, the schools will be able to soar to new heights.
