I have become a fan of rugby!
After 15 years of following only soccer, and being with a professional soccer player, it has come as a great surprise how much I have missed rugby! I used to follow every game before I left South Africa in the 80s - my aunt’s brother was the captain then, and my family was always somehow involved with the sport. Last week I went to see my first game in years at Newlands and of course I was delighted with the results.
Sunday I went on a drive down to Hout Bay and spent hours on the mooring watching the boats, and the seals playing around them. Great for clearing your mind. I then went for a late lunch at Paranga in Camps Bay. I had planned to go and look at some showhouses after lunch, but the beautiful weather and excellent food made me very lazy! A good thing too that I had the rest, since the start of the week was chaos! I am planning another project with my architects.
On Thursday I met with Karen Protheroe, our dietician. I have always known what I should avoid, or which foods make me feel uncomfortable, but never really knew the reason for it. She has opened my eyes to why certain foods will make me feel certain ways.
I’ve been in the fashion industry for 20 years, and I maintained my weight even after two babies. This comes from years of discipline. But there is a lot that I should do to maintain my health too. My usual food intake is not enough or healthy enough to maintain my health for the next 20 years. I really felt rapped on the knuckles by some of the advice I got, since I know I should know better.
Karen gave me a list of suggested food intake, and a wonderful book, The Lean Aubergine, which she wrote about low-fat shopping, cooking and eating out. How much easier it is now to go to the shops, with specific guidelines and advice on what to buy, how to prepare the food, and what to choose in different circumstances!
I also believe the bad weather may be my fault since I tried out one of the recipes!
I had not been near the oven in months and I don’t know who was more intimidated at first.
Tomorrow I will be flying to Europe for two weeks: I will be doing a shoot in London, and then the south of France. Of coarse The Lean Aubergine will be my companion the whole trip.
Aqua Bimini will travel in cargo since they don’t allow liquids in your hand luggage anymore!
