My Sister's Keeper
Last updated: Wednesday, May 07, 2008 PrintMy Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
At the age of 13 Anna has been in and out of hospital a lot, but she is not sick. Anna was conceived to be a perfect genetic match for older sister, Kate. Her life has been a series of surgeries and transfusions to help Kate fight leukemia. Kate now needs a kidney transplant to survive and Anna has finally had enough.
She has never questioned her role in the family, but Anna now begins to question who she is, independent of her sister and family. She makes a decision that tears her family – and herself – in two.
This book examines family life and the role each member plays. It makes you question what good parenting is. And it raises some very pertinent questions about medical ethics. It's a great read for anyone who's every wondered what the Human Genome Project really means.
