Healthy things to do daily

Looking after our health is not something which we can relegate to half an hour a day or the weekends.

It is something of which we need to be conscious all the time, not only for our own sake, but also for those around us, on whom we depend and who depend on us. And anyway, who wants to be ill or look as if they are?

  • Watch your posture. Be mindful of how you sit and stand – it could have long-term effects on skeletal health.
  • Drink at least 4 glasses of water.
  • Coffee and fizzy drinks actually dehydrate you.
  • Try and get a little exercise every day. It doesn’t have to mean marathon training. Even taking a 20-minute walk every day can make an enormous change to your state of health.
  • A daily bath not only cleanses, but relaxes you. Make an occasion of it.
  • Keep yourself from eating too many refined or fatty foods. On the long run you will not only gain weight, but also suffer from constipation.
  • It is not always possible, but try and get to bed most of the time at more or less the same time.
  • Remember to brush and floss your teeth.
  • Eat at least four portions of fresh fruit and vegetables.
  • Feel guilty if you smoke and make a plan to stop.
  • Do something every day you enjoy. If you feel happy, you are less susceptible to illness.
  • Go to the toilet when you feel the need. Holding it in for a long time is bad for you and could lead to bladder infections and constipation.
  • Clean your face properly twice a day and remember to moisturize your skin.

One person in every twenty has an extra rib, but this happens three times as often in men as in women. Is this perhaps where the story of Adam and the creation came from?
