Many women in this age group have a house full of children or a demanding career, and often both.
This is the time to get financially secure and achieve your ambitions. And in many ways it is easier than when you are 25, because the forties are often the stage in life where people let go of the things, which hold them back. With age comes experience, acceptance, peace and wisdom.

And with these things in hand, it is often not difficult to make your life interesting and rewarding as far as is practically possible. The late forties and fifties are often times when women's self-confidence grows in leaps and bounds and when many women reach the pinnacle of their careers. If you are happily married, this may also be the time when you and your husband start having more time together, and can start doing many of the things you really enjoy, which have had to take a backseat for while during the time your main focus was on your children.
During these years, women often really come into their own – both on a personal and a professional level. This is also the time of accepting things which cannot be changed and to make peace with things that happened in your past, if you have not done so already. Spending time doing all those things you didn't have time to do when you were thirty-five, is one of the biggest plusses of reaching this age. Whether these activities include adventure sports, reading, doing courses, enjoying your grandchildren, getting involved in a variety of organisations, amateur dramatics – it depends on your interests and situation.
