Psoriasis getting under your skin?

Psoriasis – what you can do to make it better

Psoriasisis a chronic skin complaint where red patches of skin, most often found on the trunk or knees, become covered with white scales. The scalp and nails also sometimes become affected. The affected skin grows at ten times the rate of normal skin and contains chemicals usually produced in areas where there is inflammation.

If you suffer from this condition, what can you do?

Stop smoking, as this seems to worsen the condition.

Avoid foods containing wheat and oats. If the condition improves, you might have a sensitivity to these particular foods.

Lie in the sun. This seems to improve the condition in almost three-quarters of sufferers.

Go to your doctor and ask for a prescription for a cream based on coal tar, a steroid cream or an anti-inflammatory drug.

Lose weight if you need to and eat lots of essential fatty acids. These are found in oily fish, polyunsaturated soft margarine and in Canola oil.

Take fish oil supplements

Take multi-vitamins, which also contain zinc or selenium.
