Before you use DIFFERIN topical cream

Before you use DIFFERIN tell your doctor if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients listed in the section labelled Ingredients.

DIFFERIN topical cream should not be used by women who are pregnant or who plan to become pregnant during treatment because of the risk of adverse effects on foetal development. There have been isolated reports of birth defects in babies born to women using adapalene and other topical drugs with a similar mechanism of action during their pregnancy.

What DIFFERIN topical cream is used for and how it works

DIFFERIN topical cream is used for the treatment of acne (blackheads, whiteheads and pimples) of the face, chest or back. The product acts against the abnormal skin processes associated with acne.

How to use DIFFERIN topical cream properly

DIFFERIN cream is for external use only.

DIFFERIN topical cream should not come into contact with the eyes, lips, angles of the nose, mucous membrane and open wounds. If accidental contact occurs rinse thoroughly with water.

Apply DIFFERIN at night. Wash the affected area with a mild cleanser or a mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Apply a thin film of the cream to the areas of acne. Do not simply treat the pimples. Let the DIFFERIN cream dry. Do not wash your face after applying the cream. Try not to touch the treated areas overnight.

Be patient, you should notice some clinical improvement after 4-8 weeks and more improvement after further use.

Use of sunscreen products and protective clothing over treated areas is recommended when exposure cannot be avoided. Weather extremes such as wind or cold may also be irritating.

Avoid the use of oil-based makeups and creams. Cosmetic products with an abrasive, drying or peeling action may cause an extra irritant effect. DIFFERIN topical cream should be used with caution by nursing mothers and only in areas away from the chest.

Unwanted effects

Do not be discouraged if DIFFERIN causes redness, burning or peeling at the beginning of the treatment. These effects most commonly occur during the first month of treatment and should decrease with continued use.

If a serious reaction occurs, discontinue use of DIFFERIN cream and consult your doctor.
