Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure equal to or above 140 mm Hg and/or diastolic blood pressure equal to or above 90 mm Hg. Optimal blood pressure level is less than 120mmHg (systolic) and 80mmHg (diastolic).


2. Which statement is true?
a) The older we get, the greater our risk of developing high blood pressure.
Most people with hypertension do not show symptoms, until they get related health problems. Being overweight increases risk for developing high blood pressure.


3. The risk of developing high blood pressure can be reduced by:
c) Maintaining a healthy body weight
Increasing salt intake can raise the risk of hypertension, as can high alcohol intake. The maximum intake of alcohol is two units a day for men and one a day for women.
