Home alone

Most adolescents are responsible enough to stay at home on their own. But whether you need to leave them at home when you're at work or even just to zip out to the corner shop, a safety checklist will help them deal with emergencies.

Take action:
Tell your child to: avoid talking to strangers on the way home; keep the house keys out of sight; not go inside if something about the home looks different; lock the door after arriving inside; call mom or dad when they get home; never tell a caller they're at home alone; have a panic button and list of phone numbers handy to use if they're scared or need help.
