South African men underestimate osteoporosis risk

Osteoporosis experts are concerned that lifestyle factors such as inactivity, smoking, high alcohol intake and poor diet may be contributing to poor bone health in South African men.

All men over the age of 50 but particularly those that have recently experienced a fracture or suffer from lower back pain, should book a bone density assessment as soon as possible. They should have their bone density reassessed every one to two years.
