If you love your beer, you'll be pleased to know that the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of California in the US found that some beers are high in silicon, which in turn is good for bone health and could actually prevent osteoporosis.
But not all beers do the trick. They found that those that are high in silicon were the ones with the magic. These high-silicon beers are 'highly hopped', in other words, had a high hop content. When next ordering your brew, ask for an IPA - Indian Pale Ale.
Second highest in the silicon department are malted barley beers (such as a brown ale), while those made with lots of wheat, such as Weiss beer or a blonde ale, had the least silicon.
But, remember that too much alcohol could in fact cause bone fractures so, as with everything, keep moderation in mind.
