5 Exercises that strengthen your bones

We all know the importance of a mineral-rich diet in maintaining healthy bones, but exercise can also play a role in building strong bones, especially in the long term.

Going for a quick jog, however, isn’t the answer. In fact, that could actually make things worse. Only certain exercises have been shown to improve bone growth and protect you in the long run.

For example, hiking is a great way to strengthen your bones. A brisk hike over varied terrain works a massive range of bones and puts them under the kind of strain that causes them to turn all of that calcium into real bone growth.

Hiking is useful in that it can be tuned to your needs. Older people can find themselves a relatively steep hill and walk as quickly as they feel comfortable doing. Younger people can head off the beaten path and clamber over rocks to really stretch their body.
