Keep food safe during pregnancy

There are some foods and practices that you should be careful of during pregnancy. Certain foods are considered "high risk" such as soft cheeses (brie, camembert, Roquefort) and raw and uncooked meat and fish such as sushi.  It is better to avoid these foods.

Remember that all food should be prepared with care – wash all fresh vegetables, fruit and salad ingredients carefully, and cook meat and chicken thoroughly.  Make sure the water that you drink is from a safe source – if you are unsure about the quality, rather boil it and cool it before drinking.

Follow the storage instructions on foodstuffs e.g. keep sauces in the fridge after opening. If you pack yourself a lunch for work, keep it in the fridge or in a cooler bag with an ice pack, because proteins should always be kept cold.
