This is the time of year many of us are afflicted by flu and the common cold.

Over-the-counter medications and home remedies like a few slices of raw ginger in boiling water can be used to relieve the symptoms of a cold (e.g. cough, runny nose, congestion and a sore throat).

The flu, however, involves more serious symptoms like fever, muscle ache and headaches and may require medical attention.
