Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or spastic colon is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders. It is reported that up to 15% of western populations have irritable bowel syndrome and only 20% of this group seek medical attention.

It tends to be a chronic disorder, which means that people struggle with the symptoms on an ongoing basis. Common symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, mucus in stools, and irregular bowel habits, such as alternating diarrhoea and constipation.

Stress, depression, food sensitivity, poor eating habits, lactose intolerance, ongoing use of medications that affect the bacteria in the intestines and hormonal changes may contribute to the onset of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Soluble fibre product vs. IBS
A simple treatment to this chronic condition is the inclusion of a soluble fibre product in your diet to help regulate bowel movements and ease the problem of both diarrhoea and constipation.

Following the huge success of Irri-Col Colon Support capsules, Unique Formulations is soon to release Irri-Col Fibiotic TM, a fibre and prebiotic supplement. Irri-Col Fibiotic TM contains a combination of inulin (in oligofructose form) and psyllium husk. Both these ingredients provide a softened bulk in the intestine which assists to alleviate inflammation and to clear blockage. The inulin (in oligofructose form) also promotes the production of probiotics in the intestine and diminishes the occurrence of less desirable bacteria.

Whilst the Irri-Col Colon Support capsules address chronic constipation caused by IBS, the Irri-col Fibiotic TM will assist in the treatment of both chronic constipation and diarrhoea.

“Irri-Col Colon Support capsules perform a specific function but do not supply the body with the correct amount of soluble fibre which Fibiotic TM does, with the added benefit of oligofructose which has been clinically proven to promote better colon microflora, as well as to enhance the absorption of calcium and magnesium, and to regulate blood sugar levels,” says Winston Bursey, Unique Formulations CEO.

Irri-Col Fibiotic TM will soon be available in leading pharmacies, Dis-Chem outlets, Pick 'n Pay Hypermarkets and selected Clicks stores.
