38. What am I?

Guess what I am!

I am seven letters long: 1234567

123 is a kind of vehicle

2345 is a pop group

456 is a piece of luggage

567 changes every year

What am I?

See the answers.

39. Befuddled besiegers

You, the commander of an army of bloodthirsty invaders, are laying siege to a castle. The castle is well defended: it stands on a square island with a deep moat ten metres wide running all the way around it. Your plan is to storm the island by laying plank bridges over the moat – but, frustratingly, the planks you’ve brought with you are only 9.5 metres long!

Using only this equipment, can you still get onto the island, and how? (No swimming allowed – you’re wearing full armour.)

See the answers.

Do you have a great brain teaser? Please send it in; we'll choose the best for inclusion in future Mind Games.
