Design the perfect seating plan for a bewildering dinner party, and doodle a Droodle or two!
36. Fussy eaters
Four friends – two men and two women – join Louise and her husband for dinner around a circular table.
-
Louise won’t sit next to her husband.
-
Jacob sits on the left of the woman who sits on Pablo’s left.
-
Don sits on the left-hand side of the woman sitting on the left of the man who sits on Fathima’s left.
-
Annelie sits on the left of the man who sits on the left of the woman sitting on the left of the man who sits on the left of the woman sitting on Louise’s husband’s left.
What is Louise’s husband's name?
It helps to make a drawing of the seating plan.
37. Droodles
The cover of this Frank Zappa album from 1982 seems rather meaningless. That’s until you read the title: “Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch”. See it now?
The image is a “Droodle” by cartoonist Roger Price. Droodles were very popular in the 50s and 60s, and you can still find many of Price’s “classics” on the net. Each Droodle is a simple collection of shapes, made funny by a wacky caption – or captions. (eg. The triangles could also be "Mother pyramid feeding her baby", “Titanic approaching iceberg”, or a number of other possibilities.)
It’s fun to make up your own Droodle-like puzzles. Here are two of ours – see if you can come up with creative captions.
Do you have a great brain teaser? Please send it in; we'll choose the best for inclusion in future Mind Games.
