Q.

Wisdom teeth

Hi there

I''m a freelancer who have not had medical aid so far. I was planning to open a hospital plan before the end of the year and I now heard that my two lower wisdom teeth will have to be removed in the theatre. Will a medical aid like Discovery KeyCare core cover this procedure and how long will I have to wait before I can do the procedure?

As I only earn around R4000 per month my other option is to go to a state hospital like Tygerberg but I have no idea what they will charge me? I would appreciate it if you can help but I understand that this question is more medical aid/hospital related than dental related.

Thanks.
H

I forgot to mention, that many medical aids have an extensive questionaire you need to complete, and in there you would need to indicate that you have the wisdom tooth problem etc.

most likely they would put an exclusion on this condition as they may think you are joining just to have your teeth seen to etc.

Hi H,

You should really try contacting your state hospital and asking them if the hospital has a dental school it is professors etc that teach the studying dental students etc.

They will help you, you may need to take in your salary advice and ID etc. but they will tell you what you need and how much you need to bring for your first assessment visit - thereafter they will work it out for you but i doubt you will have to pay much they are there to help people who are in need.

Good luck hope you get sorted out!
