Q.

Tooth aches, oral health

Dear Doc.

I had a root canal done on my one front tooth on the 14th of July. The dentist did notice a little bit of an abscess or infection deep inside and cleaned it out as much as she could and told me that I must get back to her after a week if I still feel discomfort. I did not really feel any discomfort, all I noticed was a little bit of feeling when I tapped the tooth with my nail. I thought it would pass and did not go back to her.

Yesterday I started noticing it getting worse. It became very painful and I phoned her immediately and requested the antibiotics she mentioned when I had been to see her last. So as of yesterday I am on antibiotics, but I am in quite a bit of pain. I cannot touch the tooth. I know the antibiotics will only kick in after about 2 days or so which is fine, but I just want to know what it could be that is causing the pain all of a sudden. It almost feels like the same pain as before the opp. Will the antibiotics do the trick? I would really appreciate your advice.

Thank you very much!

it is the abscess getting worse. the antibiotics may work but if the infection has not healed with the root canal treatment- the root canal may need to be redone or further procedures amy be required. See your dentist after the course of antibiotics have been completed
