Tartar

Hi Doc, I had my braces off in June (I had them for 2 years). I went for my check up today and they told me my gums on my bottom jaw are swollen and I' m starting to get tartar. I' ve always been very health conscience (I don' t drink or smoke and although I have a sweet tooth, I don' t have a treat every day or even every 2nd day), I brush my teeth twice a day, drink water and I admit I don' t floss as often as I should, but I use a mouth wash with tea tree. I don' t have the money for a professional treatment (the braces have left me out of pocket, as well as the fact that I needed new glasses). I scraped as much off as possible, but I can' t get inbetween my teeth and my gums are still swollen. My gums have started to recede (spelling) on my bottom jaw. How do I stop things from getting worse until I have the money for a dentist (which will only be in a few months)? How much would it cost?

Costs can only be determined after an examination. (costs around R300)
Floss daliy, brush twice a day and eat a healthy diet.
