Q.

Swollen Gland

Hi Doc

Thank you so much for assisting the public in this forum.

I''ve been suffering with cronic sinus for the last couple of months. I went to see an ENT yesterday and the dr wants to do a sinus rinse and turbinite reduction on wednesday ( it will be my second one, as I had my last one done 3 years ago)

This morning in the shower when washing my face i realised that I had a bump ( feels like a swollen gland) next to my lower jaw. (not at the bottom of the jaw, where my other limps glands are).

Could this be an absess? I have sinus infection at the moment ( not on antibiotics because the doc want to operate and then send away a culture to determin which antibiotics course will suit the bests

Could the sinus infection cause the lump? Or could the " lump"  cause the sinus? I

I ( to date) have no toothache - fever and swollen glands yes, but that could also be because of the sinus.

Should I go see my denist or my doc first? If it is an absess can we treat it with antibiotics or do i need to get (the very dreaded) root canal

yes, it could be an abscess. unlikely that the sinus can cause the bump in the lower jaw.
First see a dentist and have an xray taken. Depending on what the diagnosis is then can you decide on the root canal/antibioics.
