Silver filling

Hi

1.I had a crown fitted 5 yrs ago on my two front teeth. The gum around the one tooth and the one besdie it has been a bit swollen for a a few months now. At times the tooth with the crown has a dull pain to it. Could there be a problem?

2.I have a filing on one of my moulers from about 15 - 20 yrs ago. It is silver and hasnt given me any problems. I just want to know if this is a mecury filling and if I want it to be replaced is there a specefic procedure?

Thanks

Yes, The dull pain and gum swelling are indicative of an infection- a root canal is usually necessary in such cases.
It is an amalgam filling which will most likely have mercury in it. Most dentists will be able to replace the filling
