Root canal or capped/ grinding

I' ve been going to the same dentist for a couple years now, and their only solution to any problem is either have a root canal or to have the tooth capped. My back right side was painful and when i went there for an examination they suggested the above... they said i should wait &  see if the pain goes away then return. I went to my fiance' s dentist as he said it doesnt sound right. She suggested i get a gum gaurd, sleep with it, as i didnt have any pain on my gums, and she said it was prob due to me grinding my teeth. Since ive used the gum guard i' ve been fine.

My cousin also goes to the same guys, &  she says the same thing. it' s either root canal or cap the tooth. Surely these guys must be taking everyone for a ride... how can they only suggest one of two options no matter what the case. Now i have one of my teeth chipped at the back, no pain. But i dont know of anyone else i an go too. Afraid they will want to pull my whole tooth out when in fact it might not be necessary.

it is difficult to comment without seeing your xrays and having examined you.
However do not return to the dentist you are uncomfortable with.
If you are happy with your fiance's dentist rather see him.
also remember, practitioners who "take people for a ride" will not last long in the profession.
