root canal

Hi Doctor.

I had two root canals done this morning. As far as I know, he removed the roots completely. He filled them with a temporary filling, and said that I need to come back in a week for the permanent fillings. I phone the receptionist to find out how much all this is going to cost. She said that so far, the doctor said it' s about R800 for today, but next week is going to be R2000+. I don' t really have that kind of cash at the moment, the medical aid will basically cover for today. Can' t I go to another dentist and just get two fillings. I really need to know the best cheapest alternative. He did say that he wanted to do a clean-up, but I am not sure if that is in the R2000+.

No, The root canal treatment is NOT complete. Many people make this mistake and don't complete the treatment because the initial pain has stopped.
This will lead to major problems later (teeth breaking, infection, severe pain).
The price seems reasonable.
If you cannot afford it -complete the treatment at a government dental hospital- But complete the treatment at all costs.
