Q.

Major pain

Hi Doc,

I''ve been having a lot of pain in the past few days. My tooth that hurts has a previous root canal and cap but I went to the dentist yesterday and they told me I need a root canal because I have an infection in that tooth. They sent me home with antibiotics. It''s keeping me up and hurts like hell so I want to go back today to get a root canal. Does the infected tooth pain stop immediately after a root canal? I know root canals hurt but is the pain much less than an infected tooth? Does a root canal curel an infected tooth?

The pain could take a few days to stop-every case is different. Root canal treatment do not usually hurt. Root canal treatments clean the infection from the tooth.
