Q.

Is it necessary

Hi

I have developed dry socket again, and am rinsing regularly during the day keeping the extraction site nice and clean and taking ibuprofen and synap forte every 8 hours which is really helping subside the pain. There is pain in and around the gum and what feels like an niggly itching type of pain deep inside the socket.

What I need to know is treatment of dry socket, other than pain relief. Is it absolutely a necessary requirement , to open up the socket again and dig into the bottom of the socket and make the socket bleed again.

All my dentist wants to do is dig because that''s how they have been trained etc.

I have read all over the net on dental sights and nowhere do they say that this is done where they open up and dig to bleed in order to fill the hole again. All they mention is treatment like clove oil, tumeric and if needed for dental visits every 24 hours for them to pack the site etc.

I don''t want to have to have uneccesary treatment done if it really does not have to be and that it will heal on its own even if it does take a bit longer - which I can deal with

Thanks
Tania

Treatment will depend on the diagnosis.
Treatment of dry socket is to gently clean the socket- usually by irrigation- and pack the socket with a medicament.
