gum will not heal

When I was flossing my gum by one of my crowns at the front of my mouth my gum got a bit cut and it won' t heal now. It is not sore or bleeding now but quite red. I have tried various over the counter gum ointments but it still won' t heal. My dentist suggested I go to a periodontist so I have made an appointment for next week. I am really worried in case I have to get some major procedure, please can you advise on the possible treatments for a gum which won' t heal. It is not a big red patch of inflammed gum just on the one side of my crown. Thank you for your information.

it is unlikely that you will need a major procedure if the problem was caused by the floss. treatment options differ for differentt causes of gum ulceration so the cause needs to be determined first.
Slow healing may also be a result of other medical conditions (eg diabetes, immuno-compromising conditions)
