Q.

Dental tool lost in root canal.

Hi, I was receiving root canal treatment a few years ago when the dentist informed me that the tool she was using had broken off and was lost inside the root canal. When she said she would just need to leave it I asked her if it could break down,by which i meant corode and pass into my bloodstream and possibly cause neurological problems,to which she replied..." if it could break down I' d be able to get it out" !
It sounds daft but her manner was so hostile and intimidatory,I was suffering from depression at the time, that i just let her carry on and crown it.
So I would like to know what your advice would be regarding this, should it just be left? Is there a possibility it could cause other problems? If so should I have the tooth removed etc?
Thanks very much for your time,
Alexander Meek.

This is a common complication of root canal treatment.
leaving the instrument in the canal is accptable if the dentist feels the prognosis will be good.
it cannot break down and enter the blood stream.
If you do have pain in future, you could have it removed by an endodontist otherwise it will be perfectly ok to leave it as is
