Dental care

Which one of the following options is the healthiest or enough to keep teeth healthy? I''m 26 and already have roots showing and painful teeth. I only brush + floss 1-2 times a day. I use mouthwash only every now and then.

1.
Brushing + flossing + mouthwash after every meal (4-5)

2.
Brushing after breakfast
Brushing + flossing + mouthwash after lunch
Brushing after snack
Brushing + flossing + mouthwash after dinner

3.
Brushing + flossing twice a day

4.
Brushing + flossing + mouthwash after lunch and dinner
Mouthwash after breakfast and snacks

I didn''t have any cavities in 10 years when brushing once a day. Then only two months ago, while brushing + flossing twice a day I got two cavities. I also used teeth whitening recently. Not sure if it''s safe.

My dad only brushes his teeth. He brushes with only water after each meal, and with tooth paste after dinner only. He''s never flossed his teeth or used mouthwash. He''s 86 and has only got one cavity in his life. Are we overdoing it with all the flossing and mouthwash? I''m scared since 7 of my teeth have been affected throughout my life already and I''m only 26.

On the other hand, my mom had very poor teeth and lost them all before turning 50. She never brushed them though.

brushing twice a day, flossing daily and regular checkups at your dentist together with a healthy diet are sufficient for healthy teeth and gums
