Q.

Crowns vs Veneers

Hi Doc

I don''t really have a nice smile. My teeth seem very weak and as if my enamel has worn out slightly, becoming a ''sponge'' and stains my teeth and also makes my teeth very sensitive, not mentioning they are skew..What would you recommend?Veneers vs crowns? Also what is a +- price (just a general idea). Otherwise is there anything that could remove the stains?Would bleaching at least brighten my smile excluding the ''deep'' stains? How much, generally speaking does bleaching cost and even though my teeth are sensitive already, would bleaching make them much more sensitive? Can the vaneers or crowns cause extremely sensitive teeth?

Last question: how do i go about finding a really good cosmetic dentist as I don''t have any references and is it a good idea to cup my teeth with crowns?

the choice for veneers or crowns can only be decided AFTER a comprehensive examination. it will depend on the health of the tooth structure, bite, position of teeth etc. contact the Dental Association on 011 484 5288 for dentists in your area.

If you consider having veneers done, consult a good prosthodontist. It is very expensive, but totally worthit when you have a beautiful new smile.

bleaching not indicated in your case. You would need to consult a dentist for 1: assessment of the overcrowded(skew) teeth to see if it need correction with braces first.
2:Staining and spongy enamel can be remedied by crowns on the teeth involved focusing more on the ones which get exposed when you smile broadly.Any good dentist in your area should be able to assess this and refer if there is a need for more specialised intervention.
