bad breath

Good day,
My son is 9yrs old.He had a hole in his tooth and the dentist put a filling in (those silver ones) about a year ago. I make him brush his teeth twice a day (and I do it for him most of the time), and even rinse with mouthwash. I make him rinse his mouth after he eats. I dont see any holes in his teeth either.Iv been doing all these things as his breath is still unpleasant and even with doing this, I still get an unpleasant odour from his mouth. His gums dont bleed either.I got him a softer toothbrush as the harder ones hurt his gums. Is there any explaination for this and more importantly what can I do to please help my little boy.

have a check up at the dentist.
You may not be able to see holes in the mouth with your naked eye as they may be between the teeth.
having his teeth professionally cleaned will help with the bad breath
