Apicoectomy versus Tooth Extraction

I have a failed root canal treatment that now has an infection. My dentist has suggested I visit a specialist for a Apicoectomy. However I feel that I will be spending a fortune, and be uncomfortable for a long time, when he may remove the tooth anyway after all that. I' m thinking of opting for a tooth extraction rather than go through the Apicoectomy with potentially the same result. All I know is that I am suffering almost unbearable pain and I want it out! What do you suggest? Apicoectomy or Tooth Extraction? It' s tooth # 46

Apicectomies are not always successful.this way you can keep your own tooth longer in your mouth.
the choice at the end of the day is yours.

Bullshit! I've had a root canal and a apicoetomy and I've been suffering for the last year with pain. Going in to see if I can still save the tooth. Totally has been a money, time and quality of life issue. You need to be your own advocate, dentist won't take the blame for a bad crown and endo wont take the blame for a bad apicoetomy, especially if he comped it due to not getting the stray root the first time. So do I go 2nd apicoetomy or do I get the tooth out and get an implant?
