Q.

Zyrtec Oral Drops

My daughter is 12 weeks old and weight 4.8kg.
Since birth she has had phlegm on her chest and a doctor prescribed Zyrtec oral drops for her. Will this clear the phlegm? She is on soy milk as the others made her chest worse and gave her cramps.
At her birth the paed said she was raspy (from the phlegm) because she must have swallowed fluid. Could this be the cause of her phlegm?

If your baby swallowed some fluid at birth this would not still affect her at this stage. From your description here your baby may be allergic. She certainly is allergic to soya milk and probably to cow's milk formulas as well. Try her on a low allergy formula such as NAN HA. Zyrtec is an antihistamine. It is used for allergic babies who start showing these symtoms. The Zyrtec drops are safe but will not clear the mucous from her chest. This is why you need to find a formula that will not aggravate her allergies.
