Your Advice

Hi Doc

My 18 month old gets sick quite often (every 2-3 weeks),coughing, runny nose, phlegm, vomiting and diaria and from reading your advice I just wanted to know if I am on the right track. However I think he is cutting teeth this time cos his lip are red and takes on brushing his gums with his tongue.

He is on viral choice junior and probiflora pead for 10 days and Allecet 1.25ml. How long should he take the allecet. And what do you recommend for pain cos panado and ponstan is not bringing down his fever.

Your little boy's illness is not due to teething. He is getting recurrent respiratory infections and diarrhoea probably caused by virus infections. Does he attend a creche? The pattern of his illness suggests that he is showing the features of the so-called 'creche syndrome' where children get one infection after another.
He should certainly take the Viral Choice junior for the whole of winter and he must take Probiflora for 10 days per month for the winter months only. He does not need to take Allecet which is an antihistamine medicine and your son probably is not allergic.
