Yellow Milkteeth

Hi Doc
My son is 11 months old and have 6 milk teeth. However some of them appear to be yellow. He was born 5 weeks prem and other than being in NICU for 11 days he has never received any other medication till date. He has no sugary drinks and food either. Is this a problem and will be colour remain until he receives his permanent teeth one day?
Thank you

This is quite a common feature in some babies with their milk teeth. It is more common for this to occur if babies are given certain antibiotics but these antibiotics are not usually given to children under 12 years any more.Yellow teeth sometimes occur in children living in areas with high natural levels of fluoride in the water such as in some parts of the N Cape. This yellow colour is unlikely to disappear but your son's permanent teeth should be the normal colour.
