Q.

With ref. to 838

Hi Dr,
With my daughter being a bit of a viral wheezer, when her chest is slightly phlemmy and she is coughing a little in the morning but isnt ill as in temps etc (which she hardly ever is) do i just carry on normally - can she play outside and be outside in the evening after creche till about 7 as usual or do i keep her inside until the phleminess clears (which it doesnt for quite a while sometimes)? Also a silly question but i would be so interested in your proffesional answer - should little children wear vests until it is proper summer? (I still put a lightweight summer sleeveless vest on my daughter and i have received quite a bit if criticism). My little girl is 22 months old.

Your little girl will cough and wheeze for a while after each infection. Once her fever is gone and she seems to be better except for being slightly wheezy she can play outside as normal. I am not happy about her being outside in the evenings especially if it a bit cool or has been raining. It is not necessary for your little girl to wear a vest in the summer months.
